Kathmandu. Jumla: Shikhar Insurance Company has decided to refund the insurance premium of apple insurance for the farmers of Jumla district without meeting the criteria.
The decision was taken after an agreement was reached at the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock between the representatives of farmers, Insurance Development Board, Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, local HAC and Shikhar Insurance, who have been staging sit-in since January 11.
The farmer in the financial year 080. As many as 511 farmers of Tatopani Rural Municipality who had purchased apple insurance from Shikhar Insurance on March 1 (March 1 to April 30, 2024) will get back the insurance premium of 97,220 plants.
Besides, farmers of Kanakasundari, Tatopani and Patarasi rural municipalities of Jumla district will also be entitled to receive compensation for the insurance of apples based on the seasonal index. Protesting farmers have decided to get the insurance amount after a tripartite agreement was reached to pay only Rs 24 per sapling as per the damage assessment carried out by Shikhar Insurance Company last Friday.
Farmers in Jumla district who have not received their claim for insurance for a long time due to a dispute over compensation amount have been reconciled.
The apple farmers of Tatopani Rural Municipality had submitted a memorandum to the central office of Shikhar Insurance Company through the District Administration Office, Jumla on December 21.
A team comprising the people’s representatives of Tatopani Rural Municipality and the affected farmers had arrived in Kathmandu on January 9 following a dispute over the price of apple insurance damage assessment of Rs 24 per sapling.
Shikhar Insurance Company in FY 080. An agreement has been reached to evaluate Tatopani, Patarasi and Kanakasundari rural municipalities as moderate drought zones by amending the erroneous report of the Meteorological Measurement Centre used while evaluating 81 apple insurance claims.
As per the agreement, the government has fixed the valuation of Rs 268 per sapling and Rs 400 per sapling in Tatopani Rural Municipality and Rs 350 per sapling in Patarasi and Kanakasundari rural municipalities.
Shikhar Insurance has agreed to provide the subsidy to all the farmers of Jumla district in a lump sum. As per the agreement, the farmers will collect the documents within 15 days and pay the claim amount through cheque.
