Kathmandu. Current fiscal year 2082. Insurance companies have paid claims worth Rs 58 billion in the 10 months of ’83 BS.
According to the Insurance Reflection released by the Nepal Insurance Authority, insurance companies have paid a total of Rs 57.97 billion claims till mid-April of the current fiscal year. In the same period of the previous year, insurance companies had paid claims of Rs 67.53 billion. Compared to the previous year, the insurance claim payment decreased by 14.15 percent.
Life insurance companies have paid Rs 34.61 billion till mid-April of the current fiscal year. This payment is for 1,59,302 claims.
In the same period of the previous year, life insurers had paid Rs 48.95 billion for 2,18,951 claims. Compared to the previous year, the number of claim payments of life insurers decreased by 27.24 percent and the amount decreased by 29.29 percent.
Similarly, till mid-April of the current fiscal year, the non-life insurers have paid Rs 23.36 billion for 125,782 claims. In the same period of the previous year, the non-life insurers had paid Rs 18.57 billion for 113,937 claims.
The number of claims and amount of non-life insurers increased by 10.40 percent and 25.75 percent respectively in the review period compared to the previous year.
The claim payment amount of non-life insurers has increased due to the huge loss caused by the Jenji agitation in August and the floods and landslides of September.
According to the data till mid-April of the current fiscal year, life and non-life insurers are yet to pay claims of Rs 51.14 billion. Out of this, life insurers have collected Rs 5.52 billion for 61,649 claims and Rs 45.61 billion for 116,411 claims from non-life insurers.
