Kathmandu. Banks charge customers for providing various services. However, there is little information among the customers about the situation in which the banks charge the service charge.
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has issued a financial awareness message to inform customers about the same. “It is not possible to construct all the services provided by the banks and financial institutions on their own,” the NRB has said, “Therefore, it will provide specialized services to its customers by signing agreements with various national and international organizations.” ’
In this way, banks and financial institutions charge fees for providing services to their customers. “However, the banks and financial institutions can charge service charge from the customers only in such a way that it does not exceed the cost of payment for the services provided by other institutions,” the notice states.
For example, banks and financial institutions are allowed to charge only the same fees as the Credit Information Center while collecting credit information from customers. “If any bank or financial institution is found charging more than the fee charged by the third party, then a complaint can be lodged with the Rastra Bank,” the notice reads.
According to the Nepal Rastra Bank, banks and financial institutions are not allowed to charge any fees for some basic services.
