Kathmandu. WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that tariffs are filling America’s coffers and reducing its trade deficit by 78 percent. He has claimed that his country will reach a trade surplus this year.
Meanwhile, there is a big crisis in America. According to the Department of Agriculture (USDA), the number of cattle and calves in the country has fallen to 85 million. This is the lowest since 1951.
According to the department, the list of U.S. cattle and calves reached 130 million in 1975. This number is now 45 million less than in 2020. The price of beef has increased by 15 percent compared to January last year.
This is the largest increase in the food basket. The price of chicken has increased by only 1.1 percent during this period. The price of milk has remained unchanged.
If dairy producers start increasing their cattle numbers, it is believed that new shipments will not reach grocery stores before 2028. The price of beef in the United States is rising at an unprecedented rate due to this crisis.
Per capita beef consumption in the U.S. is about 58.1 pounds. However, per capita consumption of beef in the country has declined in the last few decades.
In the 1970s, it was over £80 per person. Despite this, the US is one of the world’s largest consumers of beef. –Agency
