Kathmandu. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha has said that the construction of Sikta, Bheri-Babai, Rani Jamara Kulariya and Sunkoshi-Marin irrigation projects would not be left in limbo. He said this while addressing a programme organized to mark the 73rd Irrigation Day on Wednesday.
On the occasion, Minister Shrestha said that preparations are underway to complete the re-purchase process of Sunkoshi-Marin Project within 90 days.
Saying the government has prioritized the maintenance, rehabilitation and managerial reform of big irrigation systems like Gandak, Narayani, Bagmati and Sunsari-Morang, he said, “Where are the real obstacles? Let us know about it and we will try to find a solution. Stating that no policy document can replace the technical knowledge of the employees, he said that he wanted to share the technical knowledge of the employees not only to follow the directives but also to share.
Minister Shrestha said that an integrated system would be made to link irrigation not only as a means of supplying water to the farms but also linking water to energy, food security, environment and livelihood.
“Water does not know which ministry or department is under the jurisdiction of energy, irrigation and agriculture. Minister Shrestha said, “Coordination between the ministries and bodies is mandatory to end the obstruction. He added that the policy also incorporates downstream benefits, flood control and what benefits can be provided to the communities living along the riverbanks.
