Kathmandu. A case of fraud of millions of rupees in insurance in the name of the deceased has come to light in neighboring India.
The incident came to light after the police arrested 74 people for their alleged involvement in inter-state insurance fraud. The police have frozen the properties of the accused.
According to the police, the gang had purchased fake insurance policies in the name of the deceased and cheated them of millions of rupees. More than 27 cases have been registered against them in five districts including Sambhal.
Investigations have revealed that the gang’s network is spread across 12 states, including Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. It is believed that they have amassed illegal assets worth more than Rs 100 crore through insurance fraud.
Superintendent of Police (SP) KK Bishnoi said that after completing the verification of the assets of the accused living in the district, the police team will now be sent to Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand as well as other states and districts. These teams are verifying the assets of the remaining 22 accused who have been booked under the Goonda Act. –Agency
