Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has approved 10-point major reform programmes aimed at providing speedy, prompt and technology-friendly services to the citizens.
As per the decision of the Council of Ministers, the Ministry has made public the action plan along with performance indicators and timelines to implement the ‘result-based governance arrangements’.
Among the major reform points made public by the Ministry, a system has been started to print and hand over the details of driving license within 24 hours of receiving the new application. The ministry has committed to printing the remaining 29 lakh licenses by mid-July 2083.
Likewise, an integrated application system would be brought into operation within 45 days by interlinking government services such as police report, passport and driving license through the citizen app. Currently, the system of obtaining police reports has been implemented. In addition, more than 250 government websites and apps will be updated in the next 30 days to be disabled-friendly and easy to use even with minimal technical knowledge.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry, the postal service will be strengthened and developed as a government courier within 90 days. The campaign aims to deliver passports, driving licenses, educational certificates and SIM cards to the distribution centres in all 77 districts of the country by mid-April 2083.
According to the ministry, bills related to information technology, electronic governance, cybersecurity, data protection and artificial intelligence will be formulated within 90 days for clarity on policy issues related to information technology, electronic governance, cybersecurity, data protection and artificial intelligence in Nepal.
