Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj, had halted its services from January 15 after the board failed to reimburse the amount for treatment expenses for a long time. Lumbini Provincial Hospital, Butwal has also announced to shut down its services.

The Board has informed that there is a limited amount of resources available to run the program. Despite limited resources and structural challenges, around 50,000 people are receiving health services every day through the programme. According to the Board, the financial security is being ensured by avoiding the health treatment expenses of the general public from their pockets on an average of Rs 8 crore per day.

Issuing a press release today, the Board has urged all the service seekers to use the health service responsibly, not to misuse the insurance service and not to pressure doctors and health workers for unnecessary tests.

It has also urged the service providers to play important role in making the health insurance program sustainable by implementing the existing laws and directives, working procedures and circulars made by the Board.
