Kathmandu. A major development has developed amid ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States and efforts to negotiate peace. According to Iran’s semi-official news agency Fars, the US has put forward 5 strict conditions in response to Iran’s recent peace proposal. These conditions have once again intensified political and diplomatic tensions between the two countries.

Neither Washington nor Tehran has yet issued an official statement on those terms, but they have dealt a major blow to hopes of reconciliation between the two countries. According to Iranian media, the US has put the following conditions, completely reversing Iran’s proposal:

  • No war compensation: The United States has categorically refused to pay Iran any reparations or war reparations.
  • {{TAG_OPEN_span_19}TAG_CLOSE_span_19} Iran must hand over 400 kilograms of enriched uranium to the United States.
  • Restrictions on nuclear facilities: Iran will be allowed to operate only one nuclear plant in the country.
  • Refusal to freeze assets: Washington has rejected Iran’s demand for the release of frozen assets and funds abroad.
  • Conditional Ceasefire: The ceasefire will be extended on various fronts only after the start of formal negotiations between the two sides.

According to Iranian analysts, the US proposal was not aimed at resolving any disputes. “Rather, Washington seeks to achieve political and military objectives that it has not directly achieved on the battlefield, through diplomacy and dialogue,” they say.

Earlier, Iran had also put 5 conditions before the US. These included an end to hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon, lifting sanctions, releasing stored assets, paying war reparations, and recognizing Iran’s sovereignty over Hormuz.

The two countries were locked in a fierce conflict for 40 days after the US and Israel attacked several Iranian cities, including Tehran, on February 28 this year. On April 8, the two sides agreed to a ceasefire.

After the ceasefire, the two countries held the first round of talks in Islamabad, Pakistan, on April 11 and 12. Which remained inconclusive. Over the past few weeks, the two countries have been sending proposals to each other through Pakistan. But the new U.S. conditions have made the path to the peace process even more difficult. –Agency
