NAIMA signs MoU with Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Nepal Automobile Importers and Manufacturers Association (NAA) and Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office (KVPO) have signed a five-year strategic memorandum of understanding (MoU) to impart training to a total of 1,651 traffic police personnel in the Kathmandu Valley on practical skills and new vehicle technology.

The objective of the training is to continuously update the traffic police on modern traffic management, road safety, service-oriented behaviour, risk mitigation and technology-friendly practices to make their daily service delivery more effective.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Bahadur Karki and Nepal Automobile Importers and Manufacturers Association (NAA) board member Saurav Jyoti exchanged the memorandum of understanding (MoU) during the inauguration of the ‘Special Campaign for Road Accident Reduction Special Campaign’ under Traffic Week 2082 on Saturday. According to the agreement, Nepal Automobile Importers and Manufacturers Association will provide training materials, technical resources, expert facilitation and coordination on new vehicle technology, road safety, use of latest technology and technical issues related to vehicle/transportation system by utilizing the expertise of its member companies. Similarly, the traffic office will ensure technical leadership, participatory management, monitoring and quality of training program.

The first phase of training under the implementation of the MoU will begin from Sunday, January 17, 2082. The training will be conducted continuously for 17 working days and 100 traffic police will participate in each session. The training will include stress management/attention, communication and conflict management, theoretical and practical observation of new vehicle technology, practical exercises of traffic management, road accident reduction and hand-gesture skills required in traffic management.

The training will be facilitated by professors from Pulchowk Campus, Thapathali Campus, trainers of Life Sciences, technical experts from member companies of Nepal Automobile Importers and Manufacturers Association, motivational speaker and life trainer Raman Bhattarai and other independent subject experts as per the need. Traffic police chiefs and senior traffic police officers will also conduct some important training sessions. Thematic presentation, practical observation, interaction, and audio-visual viewing will be the main formats of the training.

Chief of Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, Senior Superintendent of Traffic Police Nawaraj Adhikari said that it was very necessary to continuously educate the traffic police on new vehicle technology and public relations-oriented services. He said that Nepal Automobile Importers and Manufacturers Association’s continuous commitment towards long-term partnership is commendable.

President of Nepal Automobile Importers and Manufacturers Association Ritu Singh Vaidya said that the organization has been continuously active in road safety promotion, consumer education/awareness, skilled human resource development and policy advocacy in line with the vision of Nepal Automobile Importers and Manufacturers Association “Empowering Growth through Mobility”. The long-term cooperation would contribute to strengthen road safety and improve citizen-friendly service delivery through capacity building of traffic police, she added.

Saurabh Jyoti, board member of Nepal Automobile Importers and Manufacturers Association and coordinator of TYF Road Safety and Infrastructure Enhancement Committee, said that this long-term training program is directly related to road safety, public awareness and infrastructure strengthening. He added that it would contribute to the promotion of sustainable mobility through the development of safe road culture as well as human resource strengthening.
