Kathmandu. MetLife Bangladesh has taken steps to meet a part of its electricity needs from renewable energy. For this, 104 KW on-grid solar power system has been installed at the company’s head office at Motijhil, the capital city.
According to the company, it will enable it to meet about 10 percent of the total electricity of the head office through solar energy. “This initiative is part of its efforts to conserve electricity and energy and operate in an environment-friendly manner,” MetLife Bangladesh said, adding, “We believe that increasing the use of solar energy at the corporate level will help protect the environment and reduce energy costs in the long run.” ’
MetLife has been providing insurance services in Bangladesh for over 74 years. In recent years, the company has taken several initiatives to create a modern and sustainable workplace. This new solar power project is considered a part of that continuation.
MetLife’s initiative is also aligned with Bangladesh’s national renewable energy targets. In this context, installing commercial rooftop solar panels can play an important role in increasing the use of renewable energy in urban areas and also help to reduce the pressure on the national electricity grid.
Commenting on the launch, Alaa Ahmad, Chief Executive Officer, MetLife Bangladesh, said, “We attach great importance to sustainable practices in the way businesses operate and provide services in the country. By generating a portion of our head office electricity from solar energy, we want to demonstrate that development and environmental protection can go hand in hand. ’
“As one of the leading life insurance companies in Bangladesh, MetLife sees a responsibility to support national priorities and build a safer future for customers, employees and society.
The project was implemented by the Trade Division 4 of the Army Welfare Organization in accordance with the standards and technical regulations set for national grid connections. –Agency
