The decision was taken in order to protect consumers’ interest and make market management more transparent after a discussion held between the Department and representatives of Nepal Overseas Export Import Association on April 15, 2082.

The importer will have to mention every item imported from abroad and sold in Nepal. In addition, it has been made mandatory to issue invoices while selling goods.

Businesses have been given a deadline of 15 days from the date of issue of notice to mention their imported or stockpiled goods.

The Department will intensify market monitoring after the expiry of the stipulated 15-day period. The department has made it clear that if goods found not mentioned in ARP during the monitoring, strict action would be taken as per the prevailing laws.

The Department of Commerce said the move was aimed at removing price uncertainty and protecting consumers from fraud. It is believed that after the implementation of this rule, consumers will know the exact price of the goods and transparency will increase in the market.
