In the panel discussion, Tuk Bahadur Rana presented the increasing number of insurance policies as a common challenge of the entire agency business and pointed out the need to focus on Policy Persistence{, not just sales. He suggested practical solutions such as post-training follow-up system, self-learning culture, client servicing calendar and renewal reminder mechanism, and said that “our goal should be to build long-term relationships rather than sales.”
Sharing his 21 years of experience, Dr. Ishwari Prasad Baral said that insurance is not just a profession, it takes time to understand its value and social responsibility. Saying the insurance business would become more effective in rural areas due to relationship-based trust, increasing financial awareness and direct access to agents, he said, “Insurance is easy where trust is strong.”
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Laxmi Lamichhane said that insurance is a completely trust-based profession and women can be very successful in this field. She was of the view that a sense of responsibility, sensitivity and concern towards family could effectively disseminate the message of family-centered safety. “Women’s sensitivity and responsibility is the strength of the insurance business,” she said.
Presenting the fact that a large population is still outside the ambit of insurance, Dr. Suresh Babu Sharma said that the role of the agent is very important in expanding the access of insurance. Stating that the agent should not only be a sales person but also a financial educator, risk advisor and family protector, he opined that “insurance in every home, security in every family” should be made a common mission.
Similarly, Raju Shrestha expressed his views on what kind of agent should be as per today’s needs in the changing social context. He said that in the era of digital, conscious and comparable customers, there is no longer a need to transform the agent into a Professional Financial Consultant{.
The session lasted for about 40 minutes and was very effective, inspiring and participatory. The issues raised during the event created an in-depth dialogue on the professional challenges related to the agency business, potential areas for improvement, and long-term strategies. Following the success of the program, the company pledges to continue such conversation-oriented and leadership development-focused programs in the days ahead.
Citizen Life Insurance has always prioritized leadership development, transparent communication and professional empowerment and has established new practices in the insurance sector. The Citizen Leader Discourse is an important and forward-looking step in this regard.
