Kathmandu. The age limit for the appointment of chairman and members of the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) of Bangladesh has been officially removed.
The Bangladesh government has recently removed the age limit for the appointment of the chairman and members of the IDRA by publishing a gazette notice. The decision was taken after the government approved the draft of the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (Amendment) Act, 2026 on April 23.
In particular, the amendment to the appointment criteria will bring changes in the existing Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority Act, 2010. Earlier, the upper age limit for the appointment of chairperson and members was 67 years. With the latest amendment, this provision has been removed. With this, the upper age limit for these posts has been abolished.
This change will allow the Bangladesh government to appoint qualified and experienced persons to the top posts of the regulator without an age limit. –Agency
