Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population has issued Hospital Service Improvement Work Procedure, 2082 with the objective of making public health services accessible and quality. The procedure has been brought as per the 100 agendas related to governance reforms approved by the meeting of the Council of Ministers on March 27.

The new procedure lays special emphasis on reducing crowding in hospitals and saving time of service recipients. Hospitals will now have to mandatorily implement an online booking and report distribution system. In addition, QR code and online payment should be arranged to make the payment system easier.

The reports of laboratory tests and radio imaging, X-rays, etc., should be made available within 24 hours, if possible. In the case of emergency services, treatment cannot be stopped even if the patient does not have the money immediately. It will be the mandatory responsibility of the hospital to provide treatment services.

Health workers should behave politely and dignifiedly with the service recipients. What can I do to help the patient? It is stated in the procedure that a culture should be developed. If an employee is found to have behaved rudely, he or she will be made to participate in a one-hour soft skills session after working hours.

Every government hospital will have to run its own accessible pharmacy. Doctors should write a prescription only after looking at the list of medicines available in the hospital pharmacy while prescribing medicines. Also, the entry of drug sales promoters is prohibited during office hours of the hospital.

Daily work schedule and checklist should be prepared and implemented to ensure the cleanliness of the hospital. A navigation system with signs and colored markings should be installed in Nepali language along the routes leading to various departments of the hospital so that the service seekers are not deceived.

A suggestion and response system with QR code and an electronic mood chart will be placed at the entrance of each department to collect the feedback of the subscribers. The hospital chief should immediately address the complaints received and rectify them.
