Kathmandu. According to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, the owner of the lottery-lottery ticket winning 4 million Canadian dollars (about Rs 436 million) submitted his claim a few hours before the expiry of the deadline.

Tony Bitonti, director of media relations at OLG, told BBC News that the ticket was verified through a lottery terminal. The ticket was set to expire at midnight on Wednesday.

The Lottery Corporation was looking for the owner of the ticket to win the Lotto Max jackpot. The ticket was purchased almost a year ago on October 28 from a retailer in Grey County, Ontario.

OLG did not reveal the name of the winner as it had yet to confirm whether the winner was the right person. “If the rightful owner is confirmed, OLG will hold a ceremony honoring the winner and share its story with the media and the public as part of the process of releasing information about the winner,” the company said in a statement.

OLG says Gray County, which encompasses the Blue Mountains and Owen Sound, is a popular tourist destination. Someone there may have bought a ticket and forgot to check when they returned home.

Bitonti told CTV News earlier on Wednesday that it was “unfortunate” that tickets were not checked on the OLG app or store. OLG said the jackpot winning numbers are 06, 14, 17, 19, 26, 43 and 45. The bonus number is 27.

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation is urging ticket buyers to check their pockets, handbags, backpacks, wallets and vehicle gloves.

If the ticket expires, the lottery corporation will keep the prize money of 40 million Canadian dollars for future games. There have been no big lottery prizes claimed in the past.

On June 28, 2022, a man won a $70 million Lotto Max draw in Scarborough, Ontario. However, none of the ticket holders came forward to claim the prize.

At the time, OLG reported that 2,700 people had been contacted by phone and email about tickets. However, none of them were winners.

Bitonti explained that about one percent of prizes go unclaimed each year. “These prizes are usually very small,” he said. ’

Last week, an Alberta resident won the largest lottery jackpot in Canadian history, winning $90 million. The identity of the winner has not yet been released. -Agency
