Kathmandu. More than one hundred examinees have been taken to task since the mediation branch of the Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA) started taking action against fake or non-examiners participating in the agent license examination.
According to the sub-section (5) of Section (8) of the Insurance Intermediary (Agent) Examination Conduct Directive, 2079, the candidates who violate the dignity of the examination have been suspended for three months.
The authority has been monitoring the examinees connected to the examination system through the remote monitoring i.e. IRMIS system since December 22, 2002. During the monitoring, it has monitored and taken action against the fake examinees five times. According to the authority, during the on-site and non-site monitoring, 14 life insurers and 2 small life insurers have been taken action against the licensed life insurance companies.
In a press release, the authority stated that the reason for the action against the examinees was “Expelled and taken action after a person was found to be taking the exam while participating in the examination while participating in the exam.” ‘
While the examiners of 14 life insurers have been taken into action, two of the life insurers run by the private sector have not been taken into action. Apart from this, not a single person who appeared for the examination from the government-owned National Life Insurance Company has been taken disciplinary action by the authority.
Has the National Life Insurance Company completely disqualified the non-examinees in the examination or has the authority failed to monitor them effectively? Even the examinees participating in Met Life (American Life Insurance), which is known to be very vigilant in terms of compliance with legal and regulatory provisions, have also come under the action of the authority.
According to Sabita Thapa, chief of the mediation section of the authority, the participation of non-examinees is the main reason for disciplinary action. Apart from this, there are cases of disciplinary violation in the examination due to the presence of other people in the examination, the presence of other people in the vicinity.
Most of the insurers have not even made adequate infrastructure in the office for the examination. There is a problem of not getting separate rooms and equipment for the examination. The guidelines related to the examination of insurance agents have a provision that the examiners themselves should arrange the necessary equipment and reliable internet facilities for the examination. However, most of the examinees cannot manage laptops or desktop computers and reliable internet personally. Therefore, the insurer has been calling them to their own office and getting them to participate in the examination.
