Kathmandu. The Ministry of Health and Food Health has made public a list of people with phone numbers for providing free treatment services and bed related facilities to the needy patients in hospitals.
The Ministry has published a list of {{TAG_CLOSE_a_16 TAG_OPEN_a_16}} with the names and phone numbers of the concerned persons of each hospital after the general public complained that they were not aware about the details of the person to be contacted for providing free treatment service.
Clause 70 (d) of the Health Institution Operation Standard-2077 BS states that 10 percent of the total beds should be allocated for the poor, helpless and neglected patients coming to the hospital for treatment. Under this provision, all types of hospitals and health institutions, public and private, should provide free health services.
The Ministry of Health and Food Safety (TAG_CLOSE_a_15}} has launched a free health portal to make it easy for the general public to know how many free beds are available in which hospital. In this portal, the patient will get information about how many beds are available for the poor and helpless in which hospitals and how many are vacant.
This online system has been developed with the objective of making free treatment services effective, accessible and transparent in hospitals.
Article 35 of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015 has also guaranteed the right of every citizen to get basic health services free of cost from the state. The constitution has the provision that no one shall be deprived of emergency health services and every citizen shall have equal access to health services.
