Kathmandu. The United States has announced an indefinite halt in the processing of immigrant visas for people from 75 countries, including Nepal.
The Trump administration’s order, which will take effect on January 21, will further restrict legal entry into the United States. This is the strictest visa restriction the US has imposed in recent times. The US State Department said on Wednesday that the government wants to end the abuse of this system. ’
In addition, asylum cases, citizenship processing and green card applications have been suspended for migrants from the initial 19 countries on the sanctions list. “The State Department will use its authority to disqualify potential immigrants who could burden the United States and exploit the generosity of the American people,” State Department chief deputy spokesman Tommy Piggott said in a statement. ’
Piggott explained that visa processing has been temporarily suspended in order to reassess and prevent the entry of foreign nationals who may be dependent on welfare and public benefit programs.
