Kathmandu. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced a ban on social media for children under the age of 16.
According to Prime Minister Starmer, the ban will come into effect early next year in 2027. “A total ban is the right option. “We are not ready to compromise on the safety and happiness of children,” he said, adding that “we hope that the rules will be passed before Christmas and that the ban will come into force early next year.” ’
In a separate statement after Starmer’s speech, the government said the restrictions included Snapchat, TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and X. But WhatsApp and Signal will not be included. ’
In December last year, Australia became the first country in the world to implement such a ban. –Agency
