Kathmandu. The US and Iran have again launched retaliatory strikes against the ships. This is the latest phase of the attack since the fighting began a week ago. The situation was generally calm for about a month.
The US Central Command shared a recent video on X, writing, “The purity and professionalism of the US military led to the sinking of M÷T coal in the Gulf of Oman today. It has sunk in the sea. ’
The US military said it had “completely destroyed” two Iranian-linked oil tankers near the island of Kharg and a third in the Gulf of Oman.
Iranian state media confirmed the attacks, saying it targeted three U.S.-linked vessels in retaliation. It also attacked three oil tankers crossing the Strait of Hormuz “without permission.”
The attacks came a day after President Donald Trump described the current conflict as a “small thing”. Little progress has been made toward ending the six-month-long war. He did not comment on Saturday’s attack.
News of Iran’s latest retaliation came hours after US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth posted a comment on social media. “It’s simple: If Iran shoots at American ships, we will destroy and sink their oil tankers,” Hegseth wrote. ’
According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), Iran had targeted two US warships before the US attack. The US then attacked three oil tankers belonging to Iran.
CENTCOM said, “We have successfully repelled a number of attacks by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) earlier in the day.” These strikes were aimed at U.S. aircraft carriers and guided-missile destroyers.
CENTCOM claimed that no U.S. troops were harmed. — Agency
