Kathmandu. US Senator Lindsey Graham announced on Thursday that President Donald Trump has approved a bill to impose sanctions on Russia. “This bill will help put pressure on countries like India, China and Brazil to stop buying Russian oil,” he said. ’
Senator Graham wrote on Platform X that the move comes amid ongoing peace talks in Ukraine and he expects a bipartisan vote in Congress next week. ’
According to Senator Graham, there was a meeting with President Trump today on many issues. He approved the bipartisan Russia sanctions bill. “I’ve been working with Senator Blumenthal and other lawmakers on this for many months,” he said. Whereas Putin is doing everything and continuing to kill innocent people. ’
According to Graham, the bill would give President Trump the power to take action against countries that finance Russia’s war effort by buying cheap Russian oil. “This will put pressure on countries like India, China and Brazil to stop buying Russian oil,” he said.
According to the official website of the US Congress, this bill is called the ‘Russia Sanctions Act of 2025’. It imposes tariffs of at least 500 percent on all goods and services imported from Russia into the United States. It also calls for tougher sanctions on individuals and entities linked to Russia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with members of the US delegation Steve Vitkoff and Jared Kushner on Wednesday. During the meeting, diplomatic avenues to end the Russia-Ukraine war were discussed.
Earlier, President Trump had claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was unhappy with the high tariffs imposed on India on the purchase of Russian oil. The US has imposed a total of 50 percent tariff in India. Of this, 25 percent is related to the purchase of Russian oil.
Trump also warned that tariffs on Indian goods could be increased further if India did not address US concerns about Russian oil imports.
