Kathmandu. The Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) and the Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC) have agreed to collaborate for strengthening of Nepal’s capital market and power generation sectors.
The agreement was reached in a joint meeting held at the Khumaltar-based office of Sebon on Thursday. The meeting was focused on promoting investment in power generation projects through capital market, regulatory coordination and maintaining policy-level coordination. Representatives of both the bodies were unanimous on the need of a transparent, effective and investor-friendly mechanism for sustainable financial mobilization.
SEBON and the Commission’s Chiefs and representatives expressed their commitment to continue cooperation, information exchange and joint initiatives between the two bodies in a more effective manner with the objective of enhancing market confidence, expanding investment opportunities, and contributing to the overall development and stability of Nepal’s capital market and power-related sector.
The meeting also discussed for forming a joint taskforce comprising representatives of both the bodies to make the relation between capital market and power sector more institutionalized and effective. The task force aims to identify concrete measures to collaborate on investment policy issues, regulatory coordination, and further revision of existing rules and regulations.
The meeting was attended by SEBON Chairman Santosh Narayan Shrestha, Executive Directors Binay Dev Acharya, Muktinath Shrestha and Rupesh KC, Commission Chairman Dr Ram Prasad Dhital and members Dr Ram Prasad Dhital. Madhusudan Adhikari and Bhagirathi Bhattarai Gyawali and other officials were also present on the occasion.
