Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Tribhuvan University (TU) General Administration Division has handed over the building of the Tribhuvan University Mathematical Sciences (TU) that was constructed under the multi-year plan. The total cost of the building was Rs 12 crore, 21 lakh three thousand seven hundred and sixty-seven. An agreement was signed with Atlas/Satyeshwor/Kabindra JV on September 10, 2015 to complete the project in two years.
The construction of the building was completed on August 22, 2019. The Office of the Registrar had written to the Office of the Dean of the Institute of Science and Technology, stating that the building was not handed over to the School of Mathematical Sciences but to the Central Department of Mathematics, Central Department of Statistics and Central Department of Computer Science and Information Technology.
It was decided to construct a central lab in the building after the department did not use it even after 4 years of the handover. On the one hand, the building built in the name of Mathematics Science School has been in a dilapidated condition for the last 7 years and on the other hand, the School of Mathematics and Science was pleading with TU day by day to run regular classes.
If the building cannot be provided to us, then the school will build the building on its own. In a letter to the Executive Council dated 11.11.2008, Director of the School of Mathematics and Science, Keshav Raj Phulara, said that the meeting of the executive council had decided to take ownership of the school as well as the Central Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer would take the ownership of the building.
The building was handed over to Prof. Dr. Chetraj Bhatta, Head of Department of Mathematics, Madhav Kumar Bhusal, Head of Department of Statistics, Dr. Dhiraj Kedar Pandey, Head of Department of Computer Science, and Keshav Raj Phulara, Director of the School.
Director Phulara informed that the building will be renovated as soon as possible after handing over the building and will be relocated by arranging modern classrooms and seminar hall. The School of Mathematical Science is teaching the most sought-after bachelor level actuarial science and data science and data science program at the master’s level.
Expressing happiness over the shifting of the School of Mathematics and Science which has been running classes in the Public Administration Campus for the past 10 years, Prof. Dr. Shyam Prasad Shrestha said that the School of Mathematics and Science is being shifted to its own building with modern furniture.
