Kathmandu. More than Rs 1.91 billion has been collected in the Prime Minister’s Natural Disaster Relief Fund in a span of 36 hours.
According to the information received by the Ministry of Finance, the amount was deposited in the fund from Wednesday afternoon to 12 midnight on Thursday. Donors have deposited Rs 1,91,86,50,911 in the accounts of various 10 commercial banks.
On Wednesday morning, the government held a cabinet meeting and declared the affected areas as crisis areas after the massive floods in the Bhotekoshi river flowing through the Nepal-China border on Wednesday morning. After that, the help of generous individuals and organizations started accumulating in the relief fund.
The government has designated the Ministry of Finance as the focal ministry for depositing money in the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund and coordinating it. Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle is accepting the donor amount from the donor who contributes Rs 1 crore or more to the institutional fund.
Similarly, the donors can donate the cash assistance amount on the individual side by coming to the ministry. With this, the savings amount in the fund has reached Rs 4.09 billion. Earlier, there was a savings of Rs 2,17,25,09,759 in the fund.
In a span of 6 hours on Thursday, the ministry received Rs 27.33 crore from Nepal’s private sector donors. This assistance does not include the amount announced by various friendly countries.
