Risk insurance mandatory for bank employees, safety and health policy mandatory

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has proposed to make risk insurance mandatory for bank employees.

The proposal has been made in the draft amendment to the Employees Service Bylaw issued by the central bank as a model. The draft proposes to make it mandatory for employees to have risk insurance for all types of accidents that occur in course of office work (visit or otherwise). It is also proposed that the insurance premium will be paid by the working banks and financial institutions.

Similarly, the bank employees dealing in cash, collateral or valuable goods will be provided with fidelity insurance for the risk of their work and the insurance premium will be paid by the bank or financial institution.

Safety and Health Policy

The draft of the bylaw has also proposed that banks and financial institutions should formulate safety and health policy. It has been proposed that the banks or financial institutions should formulate safety and health policy in accordance with the nature of the bank’s work subject to the prevailing acts, regulations and directives of the Government of Nepal.

Similarly, it will be the duty of all the employees to implement the policy and there will be a Occupational Safety and Health Committee in the bank to implement the policy and review it periodically.
