Kathmandu. Rishi Koirala has been suspended from the post of president of Nepal Insurance Surveyors Association.
A meeting of the working committee of the association held on September 27 decided to suspend Koirala from the post of president. The association has issued a statement informing about the issue.
The statement reads, “Some decisions were taken unanimously after holding detailed discussions on the written and oral complaints received from the members, surveyors, insurance companies and other stakeholders related to Koirala.” “As the issues raised from the preliminary look seem to be directly related to institutional governance, compliance with the statute and professional reputation, it has been decided to initiate the investigation process in this regard and to suspend Koirala from the post of general membership as per Clause 7 (a) and 7 (c) of the Association’s statute, 2059 with immediate effect and 7 (c) and on the same basis until another decision is made,” reads the statement. ’
The association has also said that a 3-member independent investigation committee has been formed under the coordination of the secretary of the association, Lochan Kendra Devkota, for an impartial investigation into the issues raised. The committee will submit its report to the working committee within a month after collecting the necessary evidence, providing full opportunity to clean up the committee by seeking a written explanation from the concerned party.
After receiving the report, the executive committee will make the final decision as per the statute and if the allegations are found not substantiated, the suspension will be automatically lifted. “This decision is merely a procedural arrangement to ensure a fair and effective investigation. ’
