Our eyes see the world upside down, the brain sees it upside down, this is the surprising scientific reason

Kathmandu. Our eyes act like a remarkable camera. Light from the outside world enters the eye and produces images at a layer called the retina. Surprisingly, this picture is the opposite. The things above are seen below and the things below are seen above. Yet, we always see the world directly. What is the reason?

How does light enter the eye?

Rays of light from foreign objects (such as trees) enter the eye. These rays first pass through the cornea (the transparent layer at the front of the eye). It then passes through the pupil (black spot) and reaches the lens (the natural lens of the eye).

The lens is like a convex lens. Which bends (refracts) light rays. The special feature of a convex lens is that it passes the rays. The rays from above go down and the rays from below go up. This makes the image in the retina inverted.

This inverted image falls on the retina. The retina is the back layer of the eye. Where millions of photosensitive cells (photoreceptors) are located. These cells convert light into electrical signals.

Miracle of the Brain: Straightens up an inverted image

These signals travel to the brain through the optic nerve. The brain processes these signals and shows us the world directly. In reality, the mind does not turn any picture upside down. There are no images in the brain except a pattern of electrical signals.

The brain learns from birth that if the light coming from above falls under the retina, it is up. This learning is aided by other senses (e.g. touch, gravity).

Fun Experiment: Can the Brain Relearn?

Scientists have created special glasses. Which shows the world upside down. When people wear them.

For the first few days, everything looks upside down, making it difficult to walk. But after 4-5 days, the brain adjusts and everything looks straight again. After removing the glasses, it may look upside down for a while, but it quickly returns to normal. This proves that being straight or upside down is not a static thing, it depends on the interpretation of the mind.

Why is TAG_OPEN_strong_30 the eye designed this way?

This is the natural law of optics. In a camera or pinhole camera, the image is also made upside down. Evolution has proved this design to be the best. Some animals have different eyes, but in our eyes, this arrangement is the most efficient.

The next time you look at the world, remember that your eyes paint the opposite picture. But your brain straightens it out so beautifully that we don’t even notice. Science is truly amazing.
