Kathmandu. NCHL and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH have signed an agreement to promote digital payments in the mobility and public transport sector in Nepal. The agreement was signed by Diego Senior, Program Manager of GIZ-SET4NPL and Nilesh Man Singh Pradhan, Chief Executive Officer of NCHL.
This collaboration is expected to further accelerate the digitalization of public transport payments in Nepal through initiatives under GIZ’s SET4NPL project using NCHL’s national payment infrastructure. As part of the collaboration, NCHL and GIZ will integrate payment channels such as NEPALPAY QR, NEPALPAY Card / connectIPS with the transportation ticketing system, mobility applications, devices and other digital platforms developed through the project.
The collaboration will promote open-loop ticketing by enabling passengers to make digital payments across various transportation systems through NCHL’s payment tools. It will also help digitize the entire process of public transport payments, including ticketing, fare collection, transaction processing and settlement. With this, it aims to further expand the use of digital payments in public transport and emerging new mobility services.
NCHL will provide APIs and provide technical support for integration, testing and deployment. The GIZ-SET4NPL will facilitate the integration of NCHL’s payment channels into the respective ticketing systems, applications and devices under the project.
NCHL continues to prioritize the digitalization of Nepal’s payments ecosystem and this collaboration is seen as a significant step towards expanding the reach of digital payment infrastructure to mobility and public transportation services directly connected with everyday life. The initiative is expected to play a pivotal role in the widespread adoption of digital payments in public transportation and future mobility services, by integrating the transportation ticketing and fare collection systems with the national payment infrastructure.
