Kathmandu. More than 50 people have applied for the post of chairman of Nepal Insurance Authority.
Today was June 19, the last day to submit applications for the post of chairman of the Insurance Authority. According to sources, more than 50 people have applied till 5 pm today.
The recommendation committee formed by the government had published a notice on May 13 calling for applications for the post of chairman of the Insurance Authority. The committee had given time to the interested and eligible people to submit their personal details to the committee’s secretariat at the Financial Sector Management and Corporation Coordination Division of the Ministry of Finance by 5:00 pm today. Although the applicants include former and current high officials of Nepal Rastra Bank, as well as personalities from banks, financial and insurance sectors, the Ministry has not yet disclosed their names.
The candidate should have at least a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in insurance, monetary, banking, commerce, engineering, management, public administration, statistics, mathematics, economics or law and at least 5 years of senior managerial work experience in the related field.
In addition, the person should submit his personal details if he or she has high moral character, is not disqualified as per the Insurance Act, has not crossed 65 years of age after completing 30 years of age, has not been convicted of a criminal offense, has not been blacklisted as per the prevailing law and has completed 3 years of being released from such list, has not obtained a permanent residence permit in any foreign country, has not worked in any contract agreement with a public agency and has a good mental balance. They can.
The government has formed a recommendation committee under the coordination of Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission Dr Gunakar Bhatta. The committee comprises Ghanashyam Upadhyaya as a member and Fatta Bahadur KC as an expert member.
Now this committee will shortlist the names of at least 5 people out of the applications received within the stipulated time. After discussing with these candidates, the committee will recommend the names of 3 candidates to the Ministry of Finance. The Ministry of Finance will recommend the name to the Council of Ministers for the appointment of the chairperson.
After this, the cabinet meeting will appoint the chairman of the Insurance Authority on the recommendation of the Ministry of Finance.
