Kathmandu. The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has decided to completely ban all types of entrance examination preparation and bridge course of the school level from April 1, 2083.

In a press release issued on March 30, the ministry clarified some important provisions and addressed the confusion in the previous directive.

According to a press release signed by Joint Secretary and Spokesperson Shiva Kumar Sapkota, the Ministry has concluded that such classes conducted by various institutions before the start of the new academic session have had a negative impact on the students and parents.

Revisions and clarifications in previous directive

In a press release issued earlier, the Ministry has revised it and clarified it after some confusion was found. Initially referred to as “higher education”, the latest directive directs the strict closure of preparatory classes, especially at the school level (up to grade 12).

In the case of higher education, the district administration offices have been requested to close only those programmes that are not in accordance with the prevailing laws and regulate in the case of others. This has somewhat reduced the confusion among students preparing for the public service or university level special entrance exams.

The Ministry has written to all the 77 District Administration Offices requesting them to monitor whether such classes have been conducted since April 15 and to take action as per the prevailing laws if found violating the rules.

“Such programs at the school level have commercialized education and caused unnecessary stress to the students,” the ministry said in a statement.
