US President Donald Trump has openly threatened Iran with the most dangerous and biggest attack. “If Iran does not engage in serious negotiations, the United States could launch a full-scale attack,” he said. ’
The threat comes at a time when a ceasefire signed in June has already collapsed. Tensions on the Strait of Hormuz have reached a peak. Iran’s threats about the world’s most important oil route have shaken the entire world economy.
In an interview with Axios, Trump made it clear that not enough pressure has yet been applied on Iran. The US military has been attacking Iranian military bases for several nights.
Israel is also ready. However, Trump has said that it is not needed right now. The price of oil has reached more than $100 a barrel. This is a matter of concern for the whole world.
In February, the United States and Israel launched a major attack on Iran. It was called Operation Epic Fury. The attacks led to the deaths of several prominent Iranian leaders, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Iran retaliated with missile and drone attacks on Israeli and US bases. Lebanon’s Hezbollah also stepped up its attacks on Israel. Thousands were killed, millions were displaced, and regional instability reached its peak.
A ceasefire was reached in April, but it did not last. Tensions escalated again in June when Iran attacked ships bound for the Hormuz. The closure of Hormuz will lead to fuel shortages in Asia, Europe and the Americas.
Trump’s foreign policy has always been about maximum pressure. He has previously issued catastrophic threats, including sending Iran back to the Stone Age and destroying civilization. This time, he has also threatened that if Iran does not act seriously, there will be a full-scale attack.
Analysts believe the threat is partly both electoral and strategic. Trump wants to force Iran to abandon its nuclear program and end its support for proxy groups in the region, such as Hezbollah and Hamas. He also wants to control oil prices and keep the Gulf countries (Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar) satisfied.
Iran is economically weak but militarily ready. It has a large stockpile of ballistic missiles. It is threatening to shut down its most important weapon, the Strait of Hormuz. “If Iran attacks, it will destabilise the entire region,” he said.
Iran maintains a network of Hezbollah, the Houthis and other proxy militias. Hezbollah was active in the 2026 war in Lebanon. Despite the ceasefire, however, tensions remain. Iran strongly opposes any attempt at regime change.
Israel considers Iran to be its biggest threat. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been pushing for an end to Iran’s nuclear program. Israel played a major role in the 2026 invasion. At present, it appears to be a reluctance to withdraw from southern Lebanon, a major obstacle to the ceasefire. The Gulf countries are quietly backing the US but are publicly appealing for peace because they too want oil exports and stability.
