Kathmandu. Bagmati Province University has started teaching risk and insurance management in the Master’s level.
Academicians believe that the university will contribute to the production of skilled human resources in insurance sector in the country once the university starts teaching insurance and risk management at the postgraduate level.
It has been almost five years since the Insurance Institute Nepal, established by the Insurance Authority of Nepal, also planned to run an educational program on insurance at the master’s level by taking affiliation with a university. The institute’s plans are still incomplete as universities have shown no interest in teaching this subject.
According to the university, this academic program is a four-semester undergraduate program designed to develop highly skilled professionals in risk management, insurance, reinsurance, actuarial foundation, data analysis, and regulatory frameworks. The program will combine theory with practical knowledge through practical courses, industrial and educational tours, a six-month internship, and a master’s thesis.
The program offers students the opportunity to specialize in one of five areas: life insurance, pension funds and wealth management, social insurance, non-life insurance, reinsurance, or risk management.
Combining interactive and issue-based instruction with problem and project-based learning, this educational program adopts a modern, student-centered teaching-learning approach. Technology-driven learning, research-oriented seminars, and practical exposure are ensured through industry visits, simulations, and role games supported by the Master’s thesis to promote analytical thinking and professional competence.
