Massive explosion in the sun, a large solar storm moving towards Earth

Kathmandu. Scientists in the United States are on high alert after a huge explosion inside the sun.

Scientists say the eruption triggered a coronal mass ejection (CME). This huge cloud of electrically charged particles is moving towards the Earth.

The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Space Weather Prediction Center has issued a tropical storm warning for July 3.

It means that at least some of the CMEs could hit the Earth with a big force. When electrically charged CMEs come close to Earth, they can interact with our planet’s magnetic field and cause a geomagnetic storm. This can lead to brilliant northern lights.

On June 30, the Sun ejected a powerful X1.1-class solar flare from an active site called Region 4479. The flame at Region 4479 was facing the Earth. The intense X-ray waves emitted from the explosion reached Earth in a period of more than 8 minutes. This caused severe daytime radio blackouts in North America. This mainly affected high-frequency radio users. Experienced temporary damage or interruption of the signal.

Scientists now predict that CMEs could collide with Earth. However, most CMEs will pass through the Earth’s north. It can create enough electrically charged particles to interact with the atmosphere to create the northern parts of the U.S. to create northern lights. However, this will depend on the exact path and strength of the storm. –Agency
