WebBitInfo, a website that tracks upcoming features for the messaging app, has revealed this information. Free subscription will be an optional feature.
The messaging app is now rolling out notifications highlighting the availability of paid subscriptions. Users will get access to new features under the premium subscription plan.
New update to Playstore
The latest version of WhatsApp beta on the Play Store is Android 2.26.9.6. Users can join the waitlist for a new scheme.
Reports have shared screenshots of the new feature, showcasing the new update. Screenshots indicate that users will also get new features under the premium membership.

Purpose of the waiting list{

Users who have registered in the initial phase of WhatsApp Plus can sign up for the waitlist. Signing up for the waitlist does not mean that they will be automatically eligible for the WhatsApp subscription plan once they become available.
The messaging app has developed this new feature to let WhatsApp users know that their account is eligible for the plan. Once the plan becomes available, a separate membership process will have to be completed.
