Iran is pushing for the opening of the vital Hormuz to meet about 20% of the world’s oil needs. However, it has its own conditions. The US naval blockade around this sea route continues. In the latest update, Iran has now clearly told the US, “Hormuz will not be opened until our seven conditions are met.” ’
Iran’s parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said on Sunday that Hormuz would not open until the seven Iranian conditions set out in the June interim deal with the United States were met, Reuters reported, citing local Noornews. The statement came days after Tehran received a response from Washington on its diplomatic proposal.
The report quoted Ghalibaf as saying, “Americans who have been saying different things in the media have recently made proposals through mediators. But they should understand that the era of unnecessarily prolonging the process and imposing unilateral demands is over.” ’
In addition to the speaker of the Iranian parliament, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi issued a separate statement on Sunday. “If Tehran accepts the proposed plan to resolve the dispute with the United States, Hormuz could be opened within seven days,” he said. ’
Speaking to foreign ambassadors and diplomats in Tehran, Abbas Araghchi said that Iran has clearly stated its conditions for the reopening of Hormuz. These conditions are linked to the commitments that the United States must accept.
Abbas Araghchi further clarified Iran’s next stance if the US does not agree. “Tehran expects Washington to choose diplomacy, but Iran is ready to respond if the US chooses military action again,” he said. ’
