Kathmandu. The Karnali Province Office of Nepal Insurance Authority (NEA) has organized a discussion and interaction program with Lekbesi Municipality on insurance. Mayor Umesh Kumar Poudel was the chief guest of the program and Chief Administrative Officer Mahendra Kumar Sharma was the chief guest of the program.
A total of 65 people including the ward chairperson, executive members, employees of the municipality and locals participated in the program.
On the occasion, Chief of Nepal Insurance Authority, Karnali Province Office, Nil Prasad Lamichhane, presented the information about the situation of risk in Karnali Province, the damage to be suffered by accidents and natural disasters every year, the process to be adopted by the local levels for disaster and risk management, the need to link disaster management with development rather than only in rescue work and the role of insurance sector in post-disaster reconstruction.
During the presentation, he also informed about the important insurance policies available in Nepal, insurance rates, procedures to be followed while purchasing insurance policies and claim payment process. On the occasion, the participants showed special interest in the home insurance program and inquired about the home insurance program being implemented in Karnali Province.
Speaking at the program, Chief Administrative Officer Sharma said that insurance is very important and the local government should play an active role to increase insurance literacy and benefit the local people through appropriate insurance scheme.
Mayor Poudel expressed the view that the people’s representatives of the municipalities and wards would be active as ambassadors to connect the insurance in risk management as the support provided by the local government during the time of disaster would be limited. He urged to understand insurance not only as a return on investment but also as an effective means of risk transfer.
