India’s electricity demand hits record high with heat, govt urges govt to make electricity affordable

Kathmandu. New Delhi: Electricity demand in India continues to hit new records on a daily basis due to the scorching heatwave. According to data released by the Ministry of Energy this week, the demand for electricity in the last four days has been the highest ever in the history of India.

According to the ministry, the peak demand (peak hour demand) during the day time has been fully supplied. In the last four days, 257.37 GW of electricity was consumed on Monday, 260.45 GW on Tuesday, 265.44 GW on Wednesday and 270.82 GW on Thursday.

According to the statistics, the demand for electricity has increased continuously every day to reach 270.82 GW on Thursday. According to the Ministry of Energy, the demand for electricity is highest between 2 pm and 4 pm.

The Ministry of Energy has clarified that the government mechanism is fully prepared to supply electricity as per the demand. However, considering the possible pressure on the system during extreme heat, the ministry has made a special request to all citizens to use electricity economically, in moderation and judiciously.
