India: Customers being cheated on online insurance! The survey shows the company’s move

Kathmandu. More than 8 out of 10 people using online insurance platforms in India have experienced ‘dark patterns’. In the Local Circle survey, participants reported experiencing harsh experiences, such as being tempted by membership scams, being harassed repeatedly, being forced to perform certain tasks and being duped into offering something else.

In the past 24 months, the number of people who bought insurance online and then had significant difficulty cancelling it or were caught in a membership scam has increased from 61 per cent to 80 per cent. The number of customers feeling pressure from online insurance companies has also increased from 57 percent to 85 percent in the last 24 months.

These individuals were either sent unsolicited messages and information without their consent or their personal information was misused. A survey has revealed that 80 per cent of people who buy policies from online insurance platforms have experienced a subscription trap.

What is a dark pattern?

It’s a digital method of misleading customers and forcing them to do what they want. Many companies initially make promises to lure customers and lure them. Once the customer is convinced, they manipulate them to do things against their wishes. By the time the customer realizes this, it’s too late.
