Kathmandu. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal (ICAN) held its eighth convocation in Kathmandu on Friday. Auditor General Toyam Raya was the chief guest and National Planning Commission (NPC) Vice Chairman Dr. A total of 141 Chartered Accountants were conferred on the occasion.
Chief Guest Raya handed over the convocation certificates to the chartered accountants. Addressing the convocation ceremony, Chief Guest Raya urged Chartered Accountants to contribute to nation building through good governance. Pointing out the need of collaboration among the government, regulatory bodies and stakeholders, he stressed on professional development with high morality.
Stating that chartered accountants are a unique profession necessary for the economic development of the nation, Auditor General Raya also extended best wishes to the newly graduated chartered accountants.
“The role of Chartered Accountants is significant in managing public finances, ensuring transparency and internal control system,” he said. Auditor General Raya, who suggested the proper use of ethics, independence and discretion in professional decisions, stressed that no matter how many changes are made in technology and equipment, moral values should not be compromised.
Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission Dr. Shrestha said that although the government finances are under pressure at present, there is no need to worry as the external sector is okay and inflation is within the desired limit.
On the occasion, ICAN President CA Nil Bahadur Saru Magar welcomed the new CAs and informed about the initiatives taken by the organization. The organization has recently taken membership of CA Worldwide, launched Global Accounting Initiative in Nepal-GAIN, completed its first campus placement program, signed a memorandum of understanding with UGC and expanded the scope of accountants.
On the occasion, medals and prizes were distributed to the winners of quiz and public speaking competition organized by ICAN.
