Kathmandu. Global warming or the rise in the temperature of the earth is increasing rapidly around the world. The gases released by burning fuels like coal, petrol, and diesel are warming the earth. This is affecting the forests, oceans, and climate.

Johan Rockström, director of Germany’s Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, has warned that the average temperature of the Earth could be more than 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels in the next few years. According to him, this could lead to more frequent heat waves, heavy rains and other extreme weather events.

Rockstrom can seriously damage the Amazon forest and coral reefs. This makes it difficult to restore them. He also said that the water circulation system of the Atlantic Ocean is also under increasing threat. He believes that to stop global warming, it is necessary to reduce pollution and protect nature.

The impact of rising temperatures is not limited to rising temperatures. It can also lead to changes in natural systems related to rainfall, drought, and the ocean. Rising temperatures can increase the risk of events such as heat waves and heavy rainfall. This affects not only humans but also plants and animals.

According to Rockstrom, the world could cross the threshold of 1.5 degrees Celsius of temperature rise in the next few years. This increase is comparable to the average temperature before the industrial era. This does not mean that the temperature will rise by 1.5 degrees Celsius everywhere. Rather, the average temperature around the world will increase so much.

The Amazon forest is one of the largest tropical forests in the world. It helps absorb carbon dioxide from the air and plays an important role in maintaining the Earth’s temperature. However, increasing heat, forest fires, and deforestation are damaging it. If large areas of forest are lost, the risk of climate change may increase further.

Coral reefs are home to many marine organisms. When ocean water warms. Corals begin to lose their color. This process is called coral bleaching. If the water temperature continues to rise for a long time, corals can die. It can also harm other marine organisms.

The flow of water in the Atlantic Ocean affects global weather. Part of this system carries warm water from the Caribbean to Western Europe. This helps affect Europe’s weather. “Parts of this system are also at increased risk,” Rockstrom said. ’

Increasing heat and melting ice can increase the amount of fresh water in the ocean. This can change the flow of water. If this happens, it can affect the weather in many areas.

According to Rockstrom, companies need to understand climate change and damage to nature at the same time. “It is important to reduce the use of coal, petrol and diesel, as well as to protect forests, plants, animals and water sources,” he said.

He also expressed concern about efforts to loosen the rules to phase out petrol and diesel vehicles. He argues that subsidies on petrol and diesel could reduce the demand for electric vehicles.

To stop global warming, it is necessary to reduce pollution caused by the use of fossil fuels. At the same time, attention should also be paid to saving forests, conserving water resources, and judicious use of natural resources. The United Nations COP31 climate conference is scheduled to begin on November 9.

Measures to combat climate change will be discussed there. Rockstrom warns that the effects of global warming will not be limited to rising heat. It can also harm forests, oceans, and the natural systems that humans and other animals depend on. – Agency
