How to get a copy of the lost life insurance policy? The process is as follows:

An insurance policy is an essential document for availing benefits from an insurance policy. The insurance policy is the main basis for determining any benefit related to insurance and seeking a solution in case of any dispute between the beneficiary and the insurer.

Even though you know that an insurance policy is an important document, it can sometimes be lost, torn or destroyed due to inadvertent or circumstantial reasons. In such a situation, it is the interest of the insured or legal heir to get the insurance policy again. This is because the insurer does not pay the claim until the policy is submitted.

Here is the procedure to get a copy of a lost insurance policy

  • If the insurance article is lost, a copy can be obtained. The process of obtaining a copy can be a bit long and cumbersome. Once you have confirmed that you have lost your policy, you can obtain a copy from the insurer by completing the following procedures:
  • First of all, you have to inform the nearest branch office of the life insurer orally or in writing about the loss of the policy.TAG_OPEN_li_31

  • For a copy of the insurance policy, an application form must be filled out or a handwritten application must be registered.
  • When registering the application, you must provide the insured’s full name and contact mobile number along with the e-mail address.
  • After registering the application, a 35-day notice should be published in a national daily newspaper on the basis of the sample notice given by the insurer. The cost of publication of the information should be borne by the insured himself.
  • The notice should also mention the insurance policy number and the name of the insured and the date from which the insurance policy has been lost.
  • A copy of the notice published in the newspaper

  • should be registered with the insurer’s office and a copy should be kept with you safely.
  • After the expiry of the 35-day period of publication of the notice, the insurer will prepare a copy of the policy by completing the process of issuing a copy of the policy.
  • After the completion of the 35-day period, the insurer should contact the insurer’s office on the day specified for contact and obtain a copy of the policy.
  • The insured has to pay the copy fee fixed by the insurer for the copy of the policy. Such fees are usually set at Rs 500.

After receiving a copy of the policy, you should keep it carefully.
