Kathmandu. A meeting between the two communities was held in Dewangunj Rural Municipality Ward No. The family of the youth who was killed in the clash in Ward No. 3 and the government of Nepal signed a seven-point agreement on Thursday night.
The agreement was signed between the families of Om Prakash Mehta and Jaya Prakash Mehta, who were killed in a clash on Sunday night, in the presence of Home Minister Sudhan Gurung.
As per the agreement, the government of Nepal would immediately declare the deceased as martyrs, provide a compensation of Rs 1 million each to the families of the deceased.
An agreement has been reached to provide employment opportunity to one eligible member of the family of the deceased, to implement the suggestions and recommendations of the report of the probe committee formed to study the incident at the earliest and to construct a memorial park at a suitable place in coordination with the local government in memory of the deceased.
The agreement was signed by Krishna Dev Mehata, guardian of Om Prakash Mehta on behalf of the victim, and Naresh Mehata, guardian of Jaya Prakash Mehta, on behalf of the victim’s family. The bodies of the deceased will be cremated on Friday afternoon as per the agreement between the two parties.
The altercation took place between the two parties on Sunday night when the local Hindu youths were playing DJ loudspeakers and were going towards the Saptakoshi River to fetch water from the Muslim settlement of Dewangunj. One person was killed on the spot and 24 others were injured when police opened fire to bring the clash under control.
Following the clash, the agitation launched by the villagers demanding action against the guilty and guarantee of peace and security had spread to all seven districts of Madhesh province. A youth was killed on the spot when police opened fire on Thursday afternoon to control the vandalism and arson of private property at Golbazar, Siraha. The local administration has imposed curfew and prohibitory orders in Dhanusha, Parsa and Siraha districts since Thursday.
