Kathmandu. At a time when the Nepalese community is mourning the loss of life and property due to the recent unimaginable floods in Nepal, the Nepali community has come together in Norwood, Massachusetts. The Himalayan Lions Club, District 33K, Massachusetts organized a condolence meeting and lamp lighting program at Norwood Town Common, paying tribute to the victims and expressing deep condolences to the families of the victims in the floods and landslides.
The program expressed solidarity with the natural disaster in Nepal and prayed for the speedy rescue, relief and rehabilitation of the victims. In addition, the club has pledged to provide support to the Nepalis in distress and announced to send $2,000 to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund of the Government of Nepal.
District Governor Kristin, District Degnettes Steven and Dr. Usha Sharma, former District Governor Mathew and Norwood Town Manager Tony were present on the occasion.
PABFON Founder President Bishnu Mani Acharya and immediate past President Birochan Nepal, Boston MetroWest Nepali Community President Suresh Dhakal, BDA Massachusetts State Committee President Ram Thapa, Creative Women Group President Sanu Verma, Himalayan Lions Club Vice President Bijay Sharma and other officers of the club and the Board of Directors were present in the program. Various personalities from the local Nepali and American community were also present on the occasion.
The program was facilitated by Maheshwor Pant, Central President of DMB and Charter President of Himalayan Lions Club.
On the occasion, President of Himalayan Lions Club, Thani Ratna Kandel, thanked all the dignitaries who participated in the program and expressed gratitude for their solidarity with the natural disaster that occurred in Nepal. He paid tribute to those who lost their lives in floods and landslides and expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families.
On the occasion, President Kandel announced to send a total of 2,000 US dollars to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund of the Government of Nepal along with additional support from the amount collected from the members of the Himalayan Lions Club. He inaugurated the lamp lighting program with a commitment to extend his support and solidarity to the people suffering from the disaster in Nepal.
During the lighting of the lamp, the participants expressed their heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the floods and natural disasters in Nepal and prayed for the speedy rescue, relief and rehabilitation of the victims.
Giving the message that the pain of the disaster in Nepal is being felt equally across the seven seas, the programme organized in Naraud has highlighted the affinity of the Nepali community towards their motherland, human sensitivity and the feeling of unity in times of calamity.
