Kathmandu. The Ministry of Health and Population has sought an explanation from two senior officials regarding the dispute over the reinstatement of the members of the Health Insurance Board.
The Ministry of Insurance, Executive Director of the Insurance Board, Dr. The meeting also directed Dr Krishna Prasad Poudel and Chief of the Health Ministry’s Coordination Division Bhim Prasad Sapkota to submit a written reply within three days.
The Ministry has sought clarification from the media regarding the participation of Junu Shrestha, a member of the Insurance Board, in the meeting and signing the decision book. In the letter, Junu Shrestha has been directed to furnish clear details about his involvement in the decision related to the membership and what was the process for his involvement.
It was reported in the media that Shrestha’s signature was in the previous decision book and another decision book was prepared without Shrestha’s signature.
Shrestha’s membership was automatically inactive after he remained absent from the meeting four times in a row. However, it came to light that the Health Minister had invited him to the meeting again under pressure from the then Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Deepak Shah. The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RJP) has recalled Minister Sah from the post of minister on the charge of violating his official conduct.
However, the government has retained the post of Health Minister Nisha Mehta, who has been reappointed to the board.
