Kathmandu. The Department of Transport Management has directed the government to temporarily suspend registration of public vehicles.
The department has issued this directive by sending a letter to the concerned bodies across the country. “Lack of scientific management of public transport has resulted in increasing air pollution, increasing traffic jam and creating difficulties in movement,” the letter reads. ’
The letter states that the registration of any type of vehicle can be stopped due to environmental pollution, pressure of vehicles, condition of roads or any other reason related to public interest as per the sub-section (3) of Clause 14 of the Motor Vehicles and Transport Management Act, 2049. As per the same provision, the Department has directed to stop the registration of public vehicles (including electric public vehicles) until the Government of Nepal issues another notice.
