KATHMANDU: Minister for Health and Population Dr Sudha Gautam has requested the government to provide some amount for the time being even if one month’s social security allowance is deducted to end the financial crisis seen in the National Health Insurance Programme.

Speaking at a meeting held at Singha Durbar on Wednesday in the presence of Prime Minister Sushila Karki, Minister Gautam warned that the health insurance programme would be shut down if the budget was not allocated immediately. She said that the hospitals associated with the health insurance system might also be in financial crisis as huge amount is yet to be paid.

According to the ministry, the board still has a liability of Rs 24 billion.
