Kathmandu. Google has made a big revelation. It says that an Android partner deliberately installed malware on 13 million devices. After that, this botnet was created. Which then secretly accessed the user’s device and their internet.
According to the news, Videostrong Technology, a manufacturer based in Shenzhen, China, deliberately did this. Google said, “This malware was mainly present in Android TV set-top boxes. ’
This malware was mainly present in Android TV set-top boxes. This malware allowed ‘criminal associates’ to use the user’s internet connections without their knowledge.
Google said in its blog post, “It assesses with the utmost confidence that Videostrong Technology created and installed this backdoor and botnet on the devices and then operated them for financial gain.” ’
It wasn’t the employee’s fault
According to the company, this was not the result of a single employee’s error or a development error. Google has now banned Videostrong Technology from producing or providing software for certified Android devices.
Vidstrong Technology is an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and original design manufacturer (ODM) company. It produces devices for its customers as well as for itself. The company was founded in 2011. According to the company’s website, its devices have reached more than 100 million homes in more than 60 countries.
What is a botnet?
Google explains that a botnet is a network of infected devices. Hackers can take control of the devices after installing the malware. Infected devices are used for advertising fraud, data theft, and other malware installations.
Most of the infected devices were Android TV set-top boxes. However, the malware has also been found in telehealth devices, karaoke machines, and digital signage systems. The company has also taken legal action to shut down domains and servers that control botnets. -Agency
