Global IME Bank launches ‘AI, ML Hackathon’

Kathmandu. Global IME Bank’s Artificial Intelligence (AI÷ML Hackathon 2026 kicked off from Friday with an aim to promote artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) innovations.

Surendra Raj Regmi, chief executive officer of the Bank, inaugurated the competition amidst a special ceremony. The bank had organized the hackathon last year to promote the use of modern technology in the banking sector of Nepal and this year it has organized the second edition of the hackathon.

The competition is aimed at technology enthusiasts, startups, developers, engineers, data scientists, and researchers.

A total of 14 teams are taking part in the two-phase competition. The first phase consists of 36 hours of coding and the second phase of onsite hackathon.

There is a residential arrangement for the participating teams in the hackathon. In addition, the contestants will spend 36 hours of coding.

The participants will be presenting innovative ideas that can make banking services more secure, simple and technology-friendly focusing on various genres and topics determined by the bank.

The Chief Guest of the inauguration program Mr. Regmi said that this hackathon will play a pivotal role in identifying the upcoming digital banking services and the solutions to the challenges that are appearing in this sector. He further informed that the best teams selected from this competition will be provided with cash prizes along with an opportunity for business collaboration with the bank.

Global IME Bank, which has been recognized with respect in various national and international awards for its modern technology and excellent customer service, has been accusing it of being the ‘Bank of the Year 2014’, ‘Best Internet Bank 2016’, and the ‘Best Bank Nepal’ for the years 2024, 2025 and 2026. The bank has also received prestigious awards such as Euromoney Award for Excellence 2022, 2024 & 2025, Best Bank ESG Nepal 2024 and Best Employer.

Global IME Bank is the first commercial bank in the private sector to extend its network to all 77 districts of the country. The bank at present has been providing its services through 344 branches, 368 ATM outlets, 147 branchless banking units, 69 extension and revenue collection counters and 3 foreign relations offices. In addition, the bank has been receiving remittances from various countries including the USA, UK, Australia, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, and India.
