Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Nepal Police has intensified its crackdown on a gang involved in swindling millions of rupees by promising lucrative salaries in foreign employment.
KATHMANDU: Police have arrested 66 people involved in various cases of foreign employment fraud in the month of May alone, thanks to the strict vigilance and active vigilance of the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Teku. According to the data released by the police, the arrested accused have cheated a total of 237 youths who were looking for foreign employment.
From May 15 to June 13, such fraudsters had collected a total of Rs 18,14,88,470 from the youths and went out of contact.
More temptations in Europe and America
Fraudsters have been found to lure young people mainly from countries like the US, Canada, Croatia, Serbia, Greece, the UK and France. According to the police, the accused named Sharan Thapa had duped 43 victims of Rs 50.1 million on the pretext of sending them to Singapore.
Likewise, a group of Rajesh Chhetri, Tirthaman Bholan and Govardhan Nepali were found to have extorted more than Rs 28.3 million from 62 youths on the pretext of sending them to Seychelles and Mauritius. Other accused have also taken millions of rupees per person in the name of token money and process.
Consultancy involved in fraud business

Apart from the individual agents, the organization established in Kathmandu has been found to be involved in the fraud business. Police have arrested Amit Kumar and Rahul Kumar, proprietors of WICS Immigration Services Pvt Ltd in Kathmandu-11, on the charge of cheating four victims of Rs 1,57,65,400 on the pretext of sending them to Canada.
Procedure for legal proceedings
According to the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, some of the arrested have been sent to the District Police Range, Kathmandu for further investigation and legal action. Police have urged the general public not to pay hefty amount in the name of foreign employment to unidentified persons or consultancies without official license.
